One of the most popular and eagerly anticipated of all events in Columbia is the annual Miss Columbia Beauty Pageant. The event, known more popularly in Columbia as Concurso Nacional de Belleza, or National Beauty Contest, is known as the most important of all beauty pageants in the country. Colombia, like their neighboring country of Venezuela, is very serious when it comes to their beauty contests and put a lot of stock in their contestants and annual winners. The Miss Columbia Beauty Pageant is the contest from which the country chooses its annual representatives for both the Miss Universe and the Miss International Beauty Pageants, two highly prestigious international beauty pageants.
The Miss Columbia Beauty Pageant is seen as a very important cultural event in Columbia, and is held in the city of Cartagena de Indias every year. The event receives a heavy amount of media coverage, with some stations prioritizing the event over other events throughout the entire day. The press coverage for the annual Miss Columbia Beauty Pageant is so huge that you can see various different network crews setting up by the beach front in Cartagena de Indias just to be able to report back events that have transpired every 15 to 20 minutes of the event.
It is no wonder though, why the country regards such events highly. The women of Columbia are seen as some of the most beautiful in the world, and most Columbian women become international models that grace many magazines and fashion events.
